Hyderabad FC vs Kerala Blasters
A hard-fought victory over Hyderabad sends Kerala Blasters FC into the top four of the Indian Super League.

After enduring a tough start to the ISL, Kerala Blasters have bounced back by registering their third win in a row, thanks to Dimitrios Diamantakos' goal that helped the Blasters down Hyderabad FC.

The Tuskers beat the Nizams 1-0 at their own turf in Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad after what was a commendable defensive performance from the visitors.

Kerala Blasters now move into third place with 12 points after 7 games, same as Odisha, who have played one less game, and four points adrift the top of the table.

  • The Winners

    The Defence

Hyderabad were a team that were yet to taste defeat this season, but that streak came to a halt not only because of Dimitri Diamantakos' strike, but also because of the extremely spirited performance by the Kerala defence.

The back four of Soraisham Sandeep Singh, Ruivah Hormipam, Marko Leskovic, Nishu Kumar were majestic as they didn't allow Bartholomew Ogbeche and Co. a chance to find a way back into the game. The hosts had 68% possession, which goes to show their dominance. That made the visitors' defensive display even more impressive.

  • The Losers

    The Midfield

Having just 32% possession, the Kerala Blasters midfielders were ineffective for large spells during the game. They failed to control the tempo consistently and found it difficult to link with the forward pairing of Diamantakos and Adrian Luna. The lack of fluidity might have been a reson why Blasters could only score one goal.

  • Ratings: Defence

    Kerala Blasters rating: 9/10

Kerala Blasters defence had conceded the joint-most goals of any side in the top half of the table with 11 goals in 6 games. Penetrating such a shaky defence should have been a cakewalk for the table-toppers. Yet, that's not how it turned out to be.

The Blasters backline churned out a gritty display against Hyderabad and prevented the hosts from ever finding the back of the net.

  • Midfield

    Kerala Blasters rating: 5/10

The midfield of Ivan Kalyuzhnyi, Sahal Abdul Samad, Rahul KP, and Jackson Singh were not as effective as their previous outing, having to watch the ball at the opposition midfielders' feet most of the time. The midfield battle was lost, but it was still an okay performance from the Blasters midfield.

  • Attack

    Kerala Blasters rating: 6/10

Diamantakos got his third goal of the season, although he had to walk off due to an injury in the first half. However, his goal made the difference today and his partner in-crime Adrian Luna had a decent performance too.
