In an interesting turn of events, Zamalek have appointed Christian Gross as their coach, having first hired him in April, before dramatically announcing ending interest in the former Tottenham manager two months ago.
Gross arrives at Zamalek from Saudi side Al-Ahli with four technical staff members.
“Zamalek president Mortada Mansour announced that the contract with Swiss Christian Gross, for one season, has been agreed,” said Zamalek in a statement.
More interestingly, Gross’ hiring is funded by the chairman of Saudi’s General Authority of Sport Turki Al-Sheikh who is the investor behind newly-established Pyramids FC.
Al-Sheikh is a former honorary president of Zamalek’s archrivals Al-Ahly.
“Thanks to the chairman of Saudi’s General Authority of Sport Turki Al-Sheikh for his financial support. He is funding the new coach and promised to land a super player soon. Zamalek are in a partnership with Pyramids Club,” Mansour was quoted as saying to a local TV station by Egyptian publication Al-Ahram.
Mansour also revealed that they are chasing the signature of Morocco striker Ayoub El-Kaabi who could become their biggest summer signing.
