Yobe Stars forward Philip Auta rules out playing in lower division

Yobe Stars striker Philip Auta has hinted that he might not be staying at the Damaturu-based club if they fail in their desperate bid to escape being relegated from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Yobe Stars gained promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL) to the NPFL two seasons ago, but they are finding life quite difficult this term and are presently rooted to the bottom of the Group B table with 14 points from 16 games.

Auta, who is presently second on the NPFL top scorer’s list, told Goal that he still has a few months left on his contract, during which he would do all that he can to help Yobe Stars escape from relegation.

“For now, I still have some months contract left with them (Yobe Stars) so I keep my head straight to continuing doing my job and my best," Auta told Goal.

“We will have to wait till the end of the season and see how things will be, but definitely I want to keep playing in the top division, not the lower league."

Auta has played for various teams, including Enyimba, Heartland and Kano Pillars, and he is believed to have caught the eye of a handful of clubs due to his prowess in front of goal.
