Another dreadful result in La Liga has seen the coach edge closer to the Bernabeu exit, but Ramos believes the club can break out of their funk

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has backed Julen Lopetegui to turn things around after the club suffered yet another defeat on Saturday.

The Santiago Bernabeu faithful greeted a 2-1 reverse at the hands of Levante with a hail of jeers as Madrid's rotten run continues

Jose Luis Morales and Roger Marti both struck early for the visitors, with Marcelo's goal scant consolation.

Madrid have now lost three of their last four Liga outings, raising speculation that Lopetegui might not be on the bench for next week's Clasico against Barcelona

But Ramos believes the Blancos players must rally around their coach in order to break out of their slump.

"It's a very bad run that Madrid cannot afford. Not picking up the three points, today the team gave everything but at other times we have had more luck," the defender signalled to reporters after the final whistle.

"Individual mistakes have condemned us but we should not point the finger at anyone, the only way to turn this around is to be united.

"Lopetegui is a very motivating person, he convinces, and we have to believe, he is the first to believe, we need unity.

"If I am asked for an opinion, I give it, but I do not think that an opinion of mine could influence such an important decision as the coach's continuity."

Madrid currently lie a lowly fifth in La Liga, with just 14 points from their opening nine games.

That tally puts them three points behind current leaders Alaves, while both Sevilla and Barcelona could extend that advantage if either prevails in today's clash between second and third at Camp Nou.
