Walid Azarou: Morocco invite 'special' for me

Al Ahly forward Walid Azarou has described his invitation to Morocco national team as a 'special'.

The 22-year-old is the leading top scorer in the Egyptian Premier League with 17 goals, a feat that caught the eyes of Morocco coach, Herve Renard.

The Atlas Lions will begin their preparation for Russia 2018 World Cup with games against the Serbia and Uzbekistan on March 23 and 27 respectively.

And Azarou who moved to the Egyptian top-flight from Difaa El Jadida in July 2017 has singled out Hossam El Badry, praising the Al Ahly coach for the efforts to help him improve.

“I’m sure we will make the nation proud. I am always happy when I receive a call from the head coach, a call from the homeland is special for me,” Azarou told BBC Sport.

“I will not need time to adapt with the national team. When I was a player with Difaa El Jadida before joining Al Ahly I was part of the national team. I know the atmosphere there and that will help me.”

“I’m back with the national team after my hard work with Al Ahly and I want to thank my head coach there, Hossam El Badry, who has given me his full support.”

The marksman who played an influential role in Al Ahly's league triumph this season, will be aiming to impress Herve Renard for a place in the Fifa World Cup finals in June.
