Istanbul Basaksehir players were filmed attacking members of the press after their match against Caykur Rizespor on Saturday.

The incident appears to have started when a journalist recorded an exchange between Caykur Rizespor fans and Emre Belozoglu, formerly of Newcastle United, after the midfielder had been insulted by a supporter near the team bus.

Basaksehir players attempted to block the filming before pushing and shoving began and certain players appear to assault the reporter involved.

First, Turkey national team goalkeeper Volkan Babacan appears to place his hands on the neck of the journalist before others become involved, most in an attempt to break up the fracas.

Ufuk Ceylan, however, then runs at the journalist through a crowd and attempts to push and hit him. He is followed by Yalcin Ayhan, who aims kicks in the direction of the reporter.

The publication the journalist works for, A Spor, say they have reported the incident to the police and Basaksehir president Goksel Gumusdag later published an apology.

"For me, the board members and our coach, having the spirit of being a 'college team' is more important than any sporting success," Gumusdag said. "The unpleasant dispute between some of our players and our press members has deeply distressed me.
