The 29-year-old is staying put after emerging as an effective weapon off the bench for Toronto last season.

Toronto FC has signed Canada international Tosaint Ricketts to a new contract, the club announced Thursday.

The 29-year-old recorded four goals in 17 MLS appearances after joining the club in July, providing a spark off the bench as TFC made its run to the MLS Cup final.

"We are pleased to sign Tosaint to a new contract that will keep him at the club for the foreseeable future," Toronto general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a news release. "Tosaint is a valued player for both TFC and the Canadian men's national team. He made an immediate impact upon signing and that continued throughout the season and our run to the MLS Cup."

Ricketts, who also has played in Finland, Romania, Norway, Turkey and Israel, has 15 goals in 55 caps for Canada.

He is the second veteran reserve to re-sign with TFC in as many days after the club announced a new contract for 35-year-old midfielder Benoit Cheyrou on Wednesday.
