Socceroos Watch: Tom Rogic re-signs with Celtic

The Socceroo has sorted out his club future ahead of the World Cup

Australian midfielder Tom Rogic has ended rumbling transfer speculation by putting pen to paper on a new long-term contract with Scottish giants Celtic.

The 25-year-old joined Celtic from A-League side Central Coast Mariners in 2013 and has gone onto establish himself as one of their key players.

Despite missing some of the past season through injury, Rogic continued to impress scoring five goals and attracting reported interest from Premier League clubs.

But though stalling on an initial contract extension, the Socceroo has committed to the club until the end of 2023 and is clearly excited about it.

"I feel great to have signed a new contract," Rogic told the Celtic website.

"I’m very proud and honoured to be able to commit my future to the club,

“I’m working under a top class manager and to play my club football here is something that’s very special to me so I couldn’t be happier to have signed a new contract.

"The support here is very special and sometimes it’s hard to describe. To feel so loved and wanted by the fans is all a player can really ask for."

Rogic has been named in Bert van Marwijk's provisional 26-man Socceroos World Cup squad and is likely to play a big part in Russia.
