Tokelo Rantie keen to help his new club Cape Town City win MTN8

South Africa international Tokelo Rantie is keen to help Cape Town City win the 2018 MTN8.

The experienced striker recently joined the Citizens on a free transfer having parted ways with Turkish side Gençlerbirliği in January 2018.

Rantie is pleased to have reunited with his former Orlando Pirates team-mate Benedict 'Benni' McCarthy at City.

“I still have a lot of desire to play football. I feel like I am now at the right club," Rantie told IOL. 

The 28-year-old forward revealed that he promised to play for McCarthy when the legendary South African striker became a coach.

"Benni played a big role in my life, hence my decision to join Cape Town City. I’ve learnt a lot from him," the former IFK Hässleholm and Malmö FF striker continued.

"I once made him a promise that I will play for him one day when he becomes a coach, so I’ve kept my word on that," he added.

Rantie and McCarthy played an important role in helping Pirates win the 2011/12 Premier Soccer League (PSL) title.

McCarthy recently guided City to their second successive MTN8 final after eliminating a much-fancied Mamelodi Sundowns side in a semi-final tie.

“I haven’t thought about being in a cup final yet, but it’s great for the club. From what I’ve seen, I believe that this club will go on and win it," the former AFC Bournemouth frontman said. 

The hard-running is eager to help the Citizens clinch the first major trophy of the season, MTN8. 

"I’ll make every contribution I can to help the team achieve that," Rantie, who was not included in the recent Bafana Bafana squad which faced Libya in the 2019 Afcon qualifier on Saturday, concluded. 

City will take on SuperSport on the 29th of September 2018 in a repeat of last year's MTN8 final.
