Stoke City put Mohamed Salah's Premier League record chase on hold

The 2017-18 PFA Player of the Year winner has another chance to break the EPL record for goals against his former team Chelsea next weekend

Mohamed Salah’s impressive goalscoring run was halted as Stoke City held Liverpool to a 0-0 goalless stalemate at Anfield in Saturday’s early kickoff.

No thanks to Paul Lambert - who has never lost in any of his visits [6] to the Merseyside outfit - and his disciplined side, Salah will have to wait another day for his 44th goal of the season.

Minutes after kick off, the ex-AS Roma star had the chance to become the highest ever goalscorer in a single EPL campaign with his 32nd effort, but could only convert wide.

The 25-year-old, in total, had seven shots in the game - none of which hit the target and was the most he has had without scoring in a single game for the Reds in all competitions.

The Egypt international was made to end his terrific seven-game goalscoring run which saw him net 11 times, including a four-goal haul against Watford in March.

Salah, already on 43 goals, who is targetting Liverpool great Ian Rush's record of 47-goal in a season, now has two Premier League games and the second leg of their Uefa Champions League semi-final fixture against Roma - plus the final of the competition should they consolidate on the 5-2 first-leg advantage in Italy - to match or eclipse the long-standing feat.
