A comfortable and very important win for the green and gold

Two goals in two minutes has seen the Socceroos dispatch Palestine 3-0 at the Asian Cup

After being held goalless in a frustrating 1-0 loss to Jordan in their group opener, Australia's woes in front of goal looked set to continue as Jamie Maclaren miscued a shot completely with goal gaping in the early stages.

The Socceroos striker would make amends quickly however as he headed home the opener in the 18th minute to grab his first international goal.

Maclaren defying his short stature to rise highest in the box and guide a pin-point header into the bottom left of goal after being picked out by a well-weighted cross from Tom Rogic.

Just two minutes later the Socceroos would double their lead with Chris Ikonomidis this time finding Awer Mabil at the far post, who fired home with confidence.

Australia taking a deserved 2-0 lead into the break with the introduction of Ikonomidis and Jackson Irvine into the Socceroos starting side paying immediate dividends.

The green and gold continued to dictate play after the break but struggled to create any meaningful chances against a Palestine side set up deep.

Socceroos defender Trent Sainsbury would be shown his second yellow card of the tournament late in the game and will miss Australia's final group game against Syria as a result.

Despite that disappointment, the green and gold would wrap up the win in the 90th minute as substitute Apostolis Giannou headed home an Ikonomidis cross.

The Socceroos getting their Asian Cup defence back on track with a 3-0 win that lifts them to second in Group B with Jordan set to top the group.
