Sam Nyamweya has admitted that Kenyan football must be resuscitated and put on the right track.
In a signed statement obtained by Goal, Nyamweya says the sport now needs a team leader to make it better. “The one thing I agree we must do is that Kenyan football must be resuscitated and put on the right track.
“That does not need any single individual but a team leader that will galvanize all efforts, bring together different abilities and talents to ensure the Kenyan football dream is realized.
“We must all commit to be part of it by all means. Being part of that dream calls for all and sundry to ensure all those in authority are held accountable for their actions, decisions and what they implement.
“The next four years must and will be the period to work to make Kenya the football powerhouse it is supposed to be. I agree with the millions of Kenyans who feel we have failed to reach the levels we deserve as a people.
"My assurance is that I am listening to what football stakeholders and the entire Kenyan are saying and I will make an announcement when the time is right to do so.”
Nyamweya has also challenged African countries to better their performances at the 2020 World Cup. “Africa has no choice but to ensure that it competes and does so very well.
"The shame of Russia where all teams exited the tournament at the group stages must never be allowed to happen again. Africa deserves and can do better.
“That journey to Qatar presents a unique challenge for Africa as the continent has an obligation to improve on the display that the five African teams posted in Russia. To say the least, it was disappointing and the next four years must see a marked improvement.”
