Rotherham United defender Semi Ajayi revels in dream Nigeria call-up

Rotherham United’s Semi Ajayi has stated that he’s honoured after receiving a dream call-up to the Nigeria national team.

The centre-back, alongside Paderborn left-back Jamilu Collins, was one of the few surprises in Gernot Rohr’s 24-man squad for the Super Eagles’ African Cup of Nation qualifying match against Seychelles billed for September 8.

And the former Arsenal youth prospect, whose only run with the country came in June 2013 while playing for the U20s in the Toulon tournament, is delighted with the invite.

“Always dreamt of representing my country at senior level,” Ajayi tweeted.

“Honoured to receive my first call-up for the Super Eagles today. Thank you God.”

Before the international break, Ajayi will hope to help ️struggling Rotherham find their rhythm in the English Championship.

The second tier newcomers who have won just one of their opening four games play Millwall and Wigan Athletic next, with a League Cup tie against Premier League side Everton in between.

This season, Ajayi, 24, has played five games and scored once in all competitions.
