Gor Mahia still leads Group D with eight points, same as second placed USM Alger, who lost by the same margin to Yanga SC

AFC Leopards head coach Rodolfo Zapata says Gor Mahia has a chance of making it to the quarters of Caf Confederation Cup despite falling to Rayon Sports on Sunday.

K’Ogalo came into the match expecting to get at least a draw and progress to the last sixteen, but at the end of the day fell 2-1 to the Rwandan side. Ingwe head coach says it is good for the sixteen-time league champions to progress in the competition because it will have a positive impact in the long run.

“I wish Gor Mahia all the best at international level but not in the KPL. It is for the best of Kenyan football. If they progress in the continent it means the ratings of the football in the country goes high, and if it does players will benefit greatly, same as the Harambee Stars.”

The Argentine coach, who will have another chance to beat Gor Mahia in the derby on Sunday, is however, otimsitic that Gor Mahia have a chance to go through. “Yes, they still have a chance of making it to the quarters, they are not out, as a matter of fact they are leading their group,” Zapata told Goal.

Despite the defeat, Gor Mahia still leads Group D with eight points, same as second placed USM Alger, who lost by the same margin to Yanga.
