Robert Matano guides Tusker past former club Ulinzi Stars

Tusker registered their first win in four games to move 11th on the log following a 3-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars.

The Brewers had toiled for 360 minutes without a win but Robert Matano picked maximum points against his former side at Ruaraka Grounds on Thursday.

Matano coached Ulinzi Stars just over a year ago and led AFC Leopards to a 2-1 victory over the Soldiers at Thika Sub County Stadium.

Brian Osumba gave Tusker the lead in the 18th minute after he picked Jackson Macharia’s pass to beat James Saruni between Ulinzi Stars goal for the opener.

Tusker really needed to turn the first leg result where Ulinzi Stars triumphed at Afraha Stadium courtesy of Masita Masuta’s second half goals, with the team under Ugandan tactician Sam Timbe.

They did it in style with Brian Osumba hitting a brace in front of the local fans. Osumba gave Tusker the lead in the 18th minute before Boniface Muchiri doubled the hosts lead from a dead-ball after the former Sony Sugar midfielder directed his free-kick straight into the net.

Osumba made it three with a rocket shot to complete his brace as the Brewers stretch their advantage. Tusker took their point tally to 22 and just a place below top 10 while remained on fourth place with 28 points.

Meanwhile, Bandari moved to fifth place following a 1-0 win over Vihiga United. Darius Msagha scored the lone goal n the 75th minute that propelled the Dockers three places up in the stand with 27 points.

Bandari are joint fifth on points with Nzoia Sugar though Ken Odhiambo's side is enjoying a superior goal advantage.
