The LA Galaxy forward missed the final tournament warm-up friendly against Belarus with a calf strain but has returned to full training

Robbie Keane has given Martin O'Neill a boost after he took part in training a week ahead of the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2016 opener against Sweden.

Keane missed Ireland's tournament warm-up friendlies against the Netherlands and Belarus at the end of May and O'Neill revealed that, due to a calf strain, there were doubts over the LA Galaxy striker's fitness leading into the game against Sweden, which takes place on Monday, June 13.

Nevertheless, the 35-year-old joined the squad for training in Dublin on Monday, with his left leg heavily strapped and O'Neill expained that the striker is "ahead of schedule."

While Keane re-joined the group for the session at Abbotstown, Stoke City attacker Jonathan Walters and Norwich City's Robbie Brady sat it out and trained individually.

Walters is nursing a problem with his Achilles tendon, while Brady endured a back spasm.

Ireland take on Sweden at the Stade de France on Monday, June 13 before facing Belgium on June 18 and concluding their Group E fixtures against Italy on June 22.
