South Korea became the first team to reach the quarterfinals of the 2018 AFC U16 Championship as they remained the only team with a 100% record.

After Iraq suffered a defeat at the hands of Australia earlier in the day, South Korea knew that if they achieve a win over Afghanistan, they will book a place in the knockout stage of the competition. Not only did Korea managed that, they did it in quite some style.

Afghanistan were given a footballing lesson by the Koreans as the latter ran away with a 0-7 victory that clinched their place as one of the two best finishers in Group D even though there's still one more round of matches to be played.

With Iraq and Australia also in contention for the two spots, Korea's first day victory of Australia has ensured that they will not be overtaken by Trevor Morgan's side. Incredibly, South Korea are also the only side in the tournament that has yet to concede any goals.

Main striker Choi Min-seo did not get off the mark but did have his hands in creating the chances for his team mates. Ahn Gi-hun (21', 35'), Paik Sang-hoon (46'), Jeong Sang-bin (59', 63') and Hong Yun-sang (67') all found the back of the net on top of the own goal scored by Esmatullah Kazimi right before half time.

Head coach Kim Jung Soo sang the praise of Choi despite him not adding to his tally and paid compliments to his all-round display. Kim also went on to say that he will be looking to make changes in the final group game against Iraq as he side are now through to the next stage.

"We took Choi with us not only because of his scoring ability but also because of his off the ball work. He works hard and put pressure on the opponent's defence. Of course, having other players in the squad who can score goals is also another positive for the team."

"Basically we have a double squad, so we are confident whoever comes into the team. However while I may make changes, I'm not looking to change the structure of the team in the tournament," said Kim in the post-match press conference.
