Ramon Diaz sacked by Al Hilal

Ramon Diaz was officially sacked by Al Hilal in the early hours of today when Al Hilal shockingly tweeted out a press release announcing his dismissal on Twitter.

After a period of subpar performances, which surprisingly still sees Al Hilal sit at the top of the Saudi Pro League table, the board decided it was time for Diaz and his team to depart.

The club had won the 2016/17 Saudi Pro League and 2016/17 Saudi King Cup under Diaz, in addition to reaching the final of the 2017 AFC Champions League where they lost to Urawa Reds 2-1 on aggregate.

However, in the 2017/18 season, despite sitting top of the league, performances have gone down ever since the loss in the AFC Champions League final. An early exit from the 2017/18 King Cup in addition to sitting last in their 2018 AFC Champions League group after 2 matchweeks was enough to end Diaz’s tenure, with a 1-0 loss to Esteghlal yesterday being the final nail in the coffin.

He will be temporarily replaced by U-21 coach Juan Brown until a new manager is appointed on a permanent basis.
