Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) takes on Perak in a Super League clash on Wednesday looking to not only continue their march towards another league title but to also remedy the past as the visitors are the only team to inflict a league defeat on them this season.
JDT are on a 5-games winning streak in the league after smashing T-Team 6-1 over the weekend that saw them maintain their 11 points lead at the top of the standings. Ulisses Morais have his main players all in great goal scoring form having seen the likes of Mohammed Ghaddar, Gabriel Guerra and Gonzalo Cabrera all hitting the back of the net in recent matches. With Fadhli Shas and Marcos Antonio slowly but surely forming a partnership at the back, the Portuguese has also added some much-needed steel to the backline.
Perak themselves are on a 2-games winning run in the league, the latest coming after they edged out Felda United in a home match that was played away from the usual surroundings of Perak Stadium. Having seen Leandro dos Santos and Gilmar Filho take the centrestage in recent matches, it was the turn of Yashir Pinto to be the hero of the team after his solitary goal against Felda. Mehmet Durakovic could be looking to introduce Shahrom Kalam back into the team after his absence against Felda.
In their only other meeting this season, Perak became the only team to defeat JDT in a league match, one which also marked the last ever match managed by the late Karl-Heinz Weigang. The German was released from his duties just days after handing JDT a 2-1 defeat in Ipoh. In the last five matches played between the two teams, the records look similar with two wins a piece.
When they met last season at Tan Sri Hj Hassan Yunos Stadium, it was also in the middle of a hectic schedule and Perak managed to grind out a draw. JDT's unbeaten home record in the league this season could be under threat if they take the game lightly as Perak has shown to be a handy opponent on the road.
With JDT forwards and imports in particular in red-hot form, it looks likely that JDT will extend their winning run against Perak. The Bos Gaurus have the capability to frustrate opponent and are well-adept in keeping a good defensive shape. It will be tight but as home team, JDT are undoubtedly the favourites to win this match and bring the title hopes to a decider in the next league match.
