In the press release, PKNS explained that the decision is made to ensure that the team can return to compete, to stop the rot and avoid relegation to the Premier League.

PKNS who lost to Perak in the opening match of the Malaysia Cup group stage, has also set a target for team to make it through to the knockout stage of the competition.

Elavarasan took over the team back in 2015 and last year managed to guide the team to promotion to the Super League.

However in 2017, losing Gabriel Guerra to Johor Darul Ta'zim proved to be a big blow for the team as they struggled in the top tier. Currently sitting just one spot outside of the relegation zone in ninth, PKNS have only won twice in the league all season.

Despite trying to turn the season around by making changes to the squad during the mid-season transfer window, Elavarasan's run of six draws and five defeats seemed to have put paid to his hopes of continuing with the team.

PKNS' next match is against Felda United in their second Malaysia Cup group match on 8th July.
