Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants Orlando Pirates have parted ways with the club’s head of strength and conditioning Andre Volsteedt.

Volsteedt had joined the Buccaneers from local rugby giants Blue Bulls in 2015 and he worked with coaches such as Muhsin Ertugral, Augusto Palacios, Kjell Jonevret as well as Milutin Sredojevic at the Houghton-based club.

The former Sharks Rugby Union academy strength and conditioning manager thanked Pirates for their support during his spell with the Soweto giants.

“I would like to thank the Orlando Pirates family, the staff and especially the Chairman for the support and encouragement over the past two and a half seasons at the club,” said Volsteedt on the club’s official website.

The site also revealed that Volsteedt was set to join Stade Francais, who are one of the most decorated French Rugby Union clubs.

A club statement revealed: “Andre departs for France where he will reunite with Heyneke Meyer who is the current head coach of Stade Francais. The two worked closely together at the Blue Bulls.”

The Buccaneers also wished Volsteedt all of the best at Stade Francais, who finished 12th in the 2017/18 French Top 14 standings.

“The Club would like to thank Andre and wish him all of the best in his future endeavours.”

Volsteedt worked with former South African national rugby team head coach Meyer between 2011 and 2015 at Tshwane-based Bulls.

Meyer, who guided the Springboks to a third-place finish at the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England, was appointed Stade Francais head coach in March, 2018.

Stephen Plummer, who has been serving under Volsteedt, is likely to continue as Pirates’ strength and conditioning coach.
