The telco continues to add to its football broadcast rights portfolio in Australia

Optus has extended its broadcast rights of the English Premier League in Australia for the next four years, and also successfully bidded to telecast all international European football over the same period.

The Australian telecommunications network will exclusively show England's premier domestic division until the end of the 2021-2022 season, having began their coverage of the league at the start of 2016-2017 campaign.

Optus have also acquired a European rights package that includes Euro 2020, the 2019 Women's World Cup in France, the UEFA Nations League, UEFA World Cup qualifiers and friendlies involving UEFA nations.

The telco is also believed to be favourite to win the rights to the UEFA Champions League from next season.

Optus recently had the rights to the 2018 World Cup in Russia but was beset by coverage problems, with Australian television network SBS taking over the broadcasting of all matches halfway through the tournament.

The company has offered free usage of their Optus Sport service until the end of the August 31 as compensation - which includes the first few weeks of the Premier League season and replays of all World Cup matches.
