No backlash aimed at Benteke - Crystal Palace's Schlupp

No one at Crystal Palace blames Christian Benteke for his penalty miss against Bournemouth, according to Jeffrey Schlupp.

The Eagles rallied back to earn a share of the spoils at the Selhurst Park in their last English Premier League encounter, but could have won the tie had Benteke scored a late penalty won by Wilfried Zaha.

Taking exception to Roy Hodgson's instruction, the former Liverpool marksman blocked regular spot-kick taker Luka Milivojevic from grabbing a brace after the midfielder had converted from 12-yard out to equalise Jermain Defoe's opener. Benteke then had his weak effort saved by Asmir Begovic.

And the Ghana international said the team have moved past the issue and there is no backlash aimed at the Belgium striker.

"I think, obviously, he wanted to end his goal drought and the ball was passed to him and he took it," Schlupp told Sky Sports.

"It's one of those things, you have set-piece takers that are designated set-piece takers and I think not in any scenario should that change but he stepped up and missed it and we move forward.

"There's no finger-pointing or getting onto him, he's held his hands up and he's apologised and everyone moves forward."

Benteke, who has since apologised to his team, will be aiming to redeem his image when Crystal Palace welcome Watford on Tuesday evening.
