Moussa Djenepo ends goal drought to fire Standard Liege past Sevilla

Moussa Djenepo scored the goal in Standard Liege’s 1-0 victory over Sevilla in Thursday’s Europa League encounter at Stade Maurice Dufrasne.

The 20-year-old ended a 15-goal drought scoring an all-important strike that helped Michel Preud'homme’ men move closer to securing qualification to the round of 32 of the tournament.

After 62 minutes without a goal, the young striker who had earlier been cautioned in the tie broke the deadlock with Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez providing the assist.

Six minutes later Pablo Sarabia picked his second caution and was subsequently sent off as the home team held on to their lead.

The victory ensured the Belgian outfit share equal nine points from five games with their visitors behind leaders Krasnodar who boast of 12 points in Group J standings.

The winger who now has five goals in all competitions this season featured for the entire duration of the tie while DR Congo international Paul-Jose M'Poku was replaced by Razvan Marin in the 43rrd minute.

Djenepo will be looking to build on the impressive form when Standard Liege clash with Club Brugge in their next league game on Sunday.
