Motale: Chopping and changing coaches cost Orlando Pirates this season

Legendary Orlando Pirates defender Edward Motale says the departure of Muhsin Ertugral in November last year played a part in the club missing out on the top eight for the first time since 1987.

“I believes that contributed because it was Muhsin, (Augusto) Palacios and now Kjell (Jonevret). So, the chopping and changing [of coaches] affected them,” Motale told Goal .

Bucs tried in vain for a top eight berth in their Premiership finale against Golden Arrows, but it was always going to be an uphill task as they went down 2-1 in Durban.

“For me, it’s no surprise that they are not in the top eight. You look at all the bottom teams. Those relegated, what was the cause? It’s the chopping and changing of coaches," he said.

“I mean, Highlands Park had about three coaches in one season, Baroka the same. I think it’s about time we give coaches a fair chance and not just hire someone because he is cheaper or you are desperate for a coach,” Motale said.

The Sea Robbers have a Nedbank Cup final lying in wait on June 24. They will take on SuperSport United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
