Orlando Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic hopes the upcoming Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs will not distract his players when they face Chippa United in the Telkom Knockout Cup Last 16 this weekend.

The two Soweto giants will lock horns on October 27, but given the magnitude of the game, players usually struggle to focus on the task at hand, especially when they have matches prior to the Soweto Derby.

“It (Soweto Derby) is way ahead. We have the Fifa break and want to polish things in the best possible way. We have players in their respective national teams," Sredojevic said on The Citizen .

The 49-year-old trainer also urged his fringe players to work hard in the absence of the club's internationals, who are currently on duty with their respective national teams.

"The rest of the players need to work hard to provide a platform that will help in the Telkom Knockout match against Chippa, which will lead us to the Derby,” he continued.

Micho will be looking to mastermind another victory over Chiefs having led the Buccaneers to a 3-1 win over their Soweto rivals in a league match seven months ago.

“Respect to the Derby - it is the biggest match on the calendar which brings the country into a stand-still," the Serbian tactician added.

"But we have no right to think beyond Chippa. We want to give them respect, respect ourselves and give special respect to football; that is why we are totally focused on the [Chippa] game," he concluded.

Chippa United have not beaten the Sea Robbers since 2016, and it will be Eric Tinkler who lead the Port Elizabeth-based side against his former employers.
