Matchday 25 preview: Ghana Premier League back for homestretch

17:56 GMT+3 26/08/2017
The topflight is back in full force for the final round of games after a month hiatus

After a five-week break, the Ghana Premier League resumes with games at all eight match centres on Sunday.

With six rounds of fixtures to go, Wafa will hope to keep their hold of the top spot for what will be their first league glory, but Aduana Stars, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, who follow closely in that order, are targeting upsets of their own.

Four points clear at the top, Wafa's resolve will be tested by new boys Tema Youth, who are currently trapped in the relegation zone.

Aduana, in their bid to keep up the chase, are eyeing full points in their home encounter with Inter Allies at Dormaa.

Third-placed Hearts sit six points adrift of the leaders. A win in their local derby with Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium will do them lots of good.

Kotoko, meanwhile, have not given up on the title, an ambition which makes three points at the expense of bottom-placed Bolga All Stars a necessity if they hope to solidly keep themselves in the race.

It will be the 10th win of the campaign for fifth-positioned Medeama should they manage to beat reigning champions Wa All Stars away at the Malik Jabir Park. The Northern Blues, on the other hand, are on the search for their ninth triumph of the season.

At the Golden City Park, Berekum Chelsea will host newly-promoted Elmina Sharks. Both teams, interestingly, have same number of points.

Referee Maxwell Hanson will be the central man when Bechem United welcome 2014-15 champions Ashanti Gold to the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.

In the last game, Ebusua Dwarfs and Liberty Professionals will lock horns at the Cape Coast Stadium. The Crabs are ninth on the table whereas the Scientific Soccer Lads sit four places below.
