Asante Kotoko were held to a 1-1 draw by Liberty Professionals in Ghana Premier League matchday 14 at the Carl Reindolf Park in Accra on Wednesday.

The visitors came into the game on the back of three successive wins in all competitions but they couldn't add Liberty to their victims despite having numerous chances, especially after break.

The hosts coach Reginald Asante handed Edwin Tuffour his debut game after rejoining the club last week from the visiting team, while coach Paa Kwesi Fabin made five changes to his starting side that eliminated Storm Academy in the FA Cup last week.

After an end-to-end action in the opening ten minutes, Liberty found a breach in Kotoko's box but striker Tamimu Muntari's shot was blocked by Amos Frimpong's arm resulting in a penalty.

Tuffour Frimpong converted to put the hosts ahead by the 17th minute.

Kotoko responded with a quick counter-attack, with Sogne Yacoube failing to head home a teeing cross from Emmanuel Gyamfi by the 20th minute.

Five minutes later, Kotoko grabbed the equaliser also from the spot through Frimpong after his teammate was brought down in Liberty’s box.

On 33rd minute, Yacouba and Gyamfi combined to set up Ibrahim Osman but the youngster surprisingly fluffed the opportunity.

Goalkeeper Felix Annan blocked Simon Zibo's cross-shot with a foot by the 50th minute, while Elvis Kyei Baffour sliced the rebound over the crossbar, wasting Liberty's first real chance after the break.

Kotoko made a double substitution by the 81st minute as Obed Owusu and Douglas Owusu came on for Osman and Prince Acquah respectively and it almost paid off as they began to mount pressure on Liberty.

It was Gyamfi who should have scored the decisive goal for Kotoko after latching onto a pass from Yacouba, but the midfielder’s control was poor.

Owusu missed another chance for the Porcupines, as Liberty held on to record a stalemate.
