Jurgen Klopp is looking to give his superstar performers at Liverpool “no reason to leave”, with the intention being to avoid any further sales.

The Reds have seen prized assets slip through the net in the past, with the likes of Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho swapping Anfield for Camp Nou.

Transfer talk has raged around other members of the squad, with stars such as Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah seeing their exploits attract admiring glances from afar.

Mane has, however, spoken of his happiness at Liverpool, Salah is tied to a long-term contract and fellow frontman Roberto Firmino is into his fifth season with the club.

Klopp has worked hard to make the Reds both appealing and competitive, with a long wait for major silverware ended with a Champions League triumph in 2019.

Success is helping to keep everyone pulling in the same direction, with the man at the helm telling reporters: “We have to make sure that the situation stays like this.

“We have a wonderful atmosphere at Melwood, at Anfield and wherever we go in the world.

“That’s special, and we worked hard for that. We have to keep it. But how can you keep it if you stay only in the same mood? You have to look to the next step, improve, fight as hard as you can, run as much as you can, jump as far as you can. Then you can improve.

“The club is wonderful. It was always wonderful but because of a few different things the atmosphere was not always like this.

“Now we have a good basis and we have to use it and use it, improve it. Then the boys have no reason to leave.

“If they look left and right and see the quality of players in the dressing room, and on top of that then they like the atmosphere, then they want to use the opportunity this club gave this team.”

The likes of Salah and Mane are integral to future plans at Liverpool, with Klopp pleased to have seen both get a well-earned rest during the latest international break.

He added on two men who saw their summers dominated by Africa Cup of Nations duty: “It was perfect for the boys who didn’t have to go.

“I’m always happy for the boys being named for their national teams, it’s a big honour and very nice, but if you see the players who didn’t go this time, then everything is different.

“It’s a very intense period, and to have five or six days off in this time is important.

“The boys trained, but they didn’t need to be here to do proper football sessions.

“The more often we can do something like this, the better for the boys because they not only feel refreshed, they are refreshed. Hopefully we can use that.”
