Following Kaizer Chiefs’ recent defensive woes, Amakhosi have revealed that they have requested the return of on-loan defender Lorenzo Gordinho and are holding talks with Ugandan defender Godfrey Walusimbi.

Gordinho has been on loan at Bloemfontein Celtic ever since he was deemed surplus to requirements at Naturena last season, but with Chiefs struggling defensively he has subsequently been recalled.

The 24-year-old made 14 league appearances last season for Phunya Sele Sele and has even featured in both of Celtic’s opening two games thus far.

Nonetheless, according to a statement issued by the club on Thursday, Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has sent a request for an early release of the central defender.

Furthermore, Motaung has suggested that the player has also made a request of his own to return, amid all the financial difficulties the club is currently experiencing.

“The player also made a request to return to Chiefs after the reported problems the club has been going through,” Motaung told the club’s website.

Meanwhile, over recent weeks that has been much reported regarding Chiefs’ pursuit of another defender in Uganda international Godfrey Walusimbi.

The player who is on the books of Gor Mahia, allegedly absconded in order to hold talks with Chiefs. This led to the Kenyan outfit issuing a stern statement and threatening to take Chiefs to Fifa for alleged player tapping.

However, while the club were previously mum on the talks, Motaung has explained that both parties are currently locked in negotiations and that a move could be concluded in the coming days.

“The two clubs are in discussions and we hope to finalise the matter in the next few days,” Motaung concluded.
