Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas says winning home games was crucial for their Caf Confederation Cup campaign after beating Zimamoto 4-0 on Wednesday.
The Amakhosi boss also praised his men for their ability to bounce back from a disappointing 2-1 defeat to old nemesis, Orlando Pirates, last weekend in the Telkom Knockout Cup semi-finals.
“We did well to dominate them. Mainly, I’m impressed by the reaction from the lads after the derby loss. They really showed hunger and commitment to bounce back. The victory is a good boost for the team’s morale,” the Italian said to Chiefs' website.
“It is important to win home games in this competition. We didn’t want to leave anything to chance. Hence we fielded some fresh legs for this match,” he reacted.
With Khama Billiat having netted a hat-trick and Kabelo Mahlasela scoring the other goal, the Italian boss expressed delight for the duo, saying it is good that his team didn't concede on the day.
“I’m happy for the two lads (Billiat and Mahlasela). The strikers must get this kind of game to return to scoring form, and for Kabelo to open his account,” said the coach.
“It is good that we didn’t concede, because a goal could swing the game and give them some motivation. Now, we will prepare to go to Zanzibar next Tuesday to consolidate this victory,” he concluded.
Having failed to challenge for the MTN8 Cup and the TKO Cup trophies thus far, Chiefs will now have to fight for the league as they now occupy the sixth spot on the PSL log with 18 points from 13 games.
