Ahead of their final game of the season, Newcastle Jets have confirmed that up to six players including marquee Ronny Vargas won't be at the club moving forward.
Vargas headlines an exiting group that also includes Jair, Daniel Georgievski, Nick Cowburn, Kwabena Appiah and Jake Adelson - according to The Newcastle Herald.
While Georgievski's departure has been widely reported with Western Sydney Wanderers looming as his likely destination, Vargas' departure after two years in the competition might surprise some fans.
The Venezuelan began his A-League career with a bang before injury ruined his first season with the Jets and Vargas has arguably failed to hit his initial heights this season.
"With regards to Ronny, the club has decided to go in another direction," Jets manager of football operations Joel Griffiths told The Herald.
"We thought it was important that we be transparent about that. We want to give the fans an opportunity to thank Ronny and all the players who are departing.
"With players the calibre of Ronny and Jair, I would be surprised if they did not have interest from clubs around the world."
With one star set to leave, the Jets remain intent on re-signing striker Roy O'Donovan with contract negotiations ongoing with the Irishman.
Newcastle have also already secured the signature of Matthew Millar for next season after luring him away from F3 rivals Central Coast Mariners.
