The Nigeria international scored a stunning goal against Ian Holloway’s men to hand the Royals their first victory since January

Reading coach Paul Clement has praised Sone Aluko’s goal in their 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers in Friday’s English Championship outing.

The 29-year-old tricked his marker before firing into the top corner to hand the new manager victory in his first game in charge of the team.

After a dismal run of results with one win in 18 games which leaves the Madejski Stadium outfit battling for survival, Jaap Stam was sacked and replaced with the former Swansea City boss.

And the English tactician has applauded the effort by the former Hull City player while also praising the team’s determination.

"We started brightly and we fully deserved to go was a fantastic goal,” Clement said after the match.

“I’m happy for the fans and I’m happy for the players, because it’s not been an easy time that they’ve been through.

“And I more pleased with the effort and determination that was shown all over the pitch. The players were working hard, working for each other, making tackles and blocks, dealing with adversity. They showed that they were up for the battle.”

The victory helped the Royals climbed to the 19th spot in the log after accruing 39 points from 39 outings.

Aluko has now scored three goals in 32 Championship appearances, involving 29 starts this season since he joined the side from Fulham in August.

The Nigeria international will be looking to continue with this impressive showing when Reading take on Aston Villa on April 3.
