Istanbul Basaksehir's league position excites Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor is thrilled to have helped Istanbul Basaksehir move to the summit of the Turkish Super Lig table for the first time this season.

Alexandru Epureanu’s 57th-minute strike helped Abdullah Avci's side to a 1-0 victory over Osmanlispor in Sunday’s league encounter, thus, dethroning Galatasaray, who had suffered a 3-0 loss to Beşiktaş, at the top of the log.

The win extended their unbeaten run to eight league games and the Togo international who was on parade for the entire duration of the encounter heaped praise on the team’s display.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City forward urged his teammates to carry on with their impressive run as they chase their second Turkish top-flight title.

“Good team performance tonight. Glad to be at the top of the table! Let's keep the momentum going,” Adebayor wrote on Instagram.

The 32-year-old has found the back of the net eight times in 13 league outings this campaign and will hope to continue his brilliant goalscoring form when Istanbul Basaksehir visit Sivasspor for their next fixture on December 10 after Thursday's Uefa Europa League encounter against Sporting Braga.

With 30 points from 14 games, the 2016-17 league runners-up sit at the summit of the Turkish top-flight log.
