ISL 2018-19: Jamshedpur FC set to sign Augustin Fernandes

Jamshedpur FC are all set to sign 30-year-old defender Augustin Fernandes as a replacement for Gaurav Mukhi for the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) season.

Mukhi received a six-month suspension from the Disciplinary Committee of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on age discrepancy grounds.

The six-month-long suspension means that the Jamshedpur youngster will not be able to take the field for the rest of the ISL season. As a result, Jamshedpur are considering to replace him with an experienced defender in Augustin Fernandes, Goal can confirm.

The Goan defender is already in Jamshedpur and is under trial at the club. Augustin had earlier plied his trade for ATK in 2015 and FC Pune City in 2016. He had re-joined the Kolkata side last season but was released during the January transfer window.

Jamshedpur are in dire need of a central defender at the moment. Their Indian contingent of central defenders have not been up to the mark as Cesar Ferrando is yet to find a stable partner for Tiri at the heart of the defence.

The Men of Steel have already conceded 12 goals in nine matches and have dropped crucial points due to a shaky defence.
