The Gaurs have scored18 goals in five matches, out of which only two games were played in the comforts of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Fatorda. However, the Goan franchise have also leaked in a goal in each of their matches.
Coach Sergio Lobera assured that it is just a matter of time before the club can get their first clean-sheet of the season.
“We have scored 18 goals in five games so I think that’s worth talking about. I’d rather talk about that than the defence. The defence was good tonight and we continue to work on it. It will get better with each passing match and very soon we should have our clean-sheet in the next few games,” said Lobera.
The 40-year-old praised the performance of Laxmikant Kattimani, who incidentally had a much better outing than the previous four.
“It is true he has had a tough start but I have always believed in him since day one. A family which stays together helps each other. We are all helping him and each other. He plays in a crucial position and so the errors are magnified. He will overcome this.
“The goalkeeper is very important but for us, more so than other teams since he starts the play for us. He is not just a shot-stopper because we like to start the play from the back and it all starts from the goalkeeper,” reasoned the FC Goa coach.
Gabriel Cichero was sent-off in the second half after he picked his second booking of the evening. Lobera chose not to speak about the referee’s performance and instead highlighted that his team did well to pick three points which helped to go top of the ISL table.
“I think ultimately in football everything is a great equalizer. We deserved the win with the chances we created. Not the best game of the season from us but we are happy with the three points.
“I don’t speak about referees because it is the hardest job in football. We all need to come together to try and help the referee best do his job. We have also decisions go against us before but such things happen in football and in the end it’s the same for all teams.
“It was a complicated game. First half it was hard since they knew how we like to play. The game opened up a bit more in the second half and we created a lot more chances,” he concluded.
