The Ghana coach believes his outfit could have performed better at the continental championship had they been a lot more purposeful

Ghana coach Avram Grant has rued missed opportunities, which led to their disappointing campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

The Black Stars lost 2-0 to Cameroon in the semi-finals on Thursday, before falling by a lone goal to Burkina Faso in the third-place playoff on Saturday.

The Israeli, who was appointed Ghana coach in December 2014, is expected to bring his reign to an end this month.

“We missed some chances in the competition but I think Ghana has a bright future," Grant said.

“We conceded four goals in the competition and three of them were from set-pieces - we need to look at the details.

“I am very much aware that my contract comes to an end in a few weeks and I am looking forward to speaking to the authorities who brought me here.

“It’s obviously a big disappointment to us all but sometimes that is how football is.”

Two months into his Ghana role, Grant led the Black Stars to the final of the Afcon in 2015, losing to Cote d'Ivoire on penalties.

His quest to make amends in Gabon unfortunately proved futile.

Ghana have won the Afcon on four occasions.
