Gombe United striker, Sani Abanni expresses his excitement after winning the Nigeria Professional Football League VAT Wonder Goal 9.
Abanni’s strike from outside the area in the Savannah Scorpions' 2-0 win over El Kanemi Warriors on July 9 was voted the best with the duo of Joseph Abiodun (Sunshine Stars) and Abu Azeez (Shooting Stars) second and third respectively.
“This award is very important to me. I really value it. The goal came at the right time when El Kanemi Warriors were threatening to score. The goal calmed the game before Idris Bakare got the second goal in the dying minute of the match,” Abbani told Goal.
“The goal has changed a lot about me. I have found it very hard to score since then because I keep on thinking how I managed to score the goal. I am looking forward to getting more of that before the season ends.
“Our present position on the league table is a real source of concern to me. It has not been the way we expected it to be. We will continue to do our best to ensure that we do well in our remaining league matches.”
Abbani has scored four goals in the league this season.
