Ghana international Samuel Inkoom will welcome an opportunity to play at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) following his return to action after almost two years on the sidelines.

The right-back, who played at the 2010 and 2012 Afcons as well as the 2010 Fifa World Cup, has been out of action since his one-year Fifa ban from May 2017. The ban was for refusing to pay his former agent.

The suspension was further extended in June last year after failing to settle the debt. In January, the ban was eventually lifted, granting him an opportunity to join Bulgarian side Dunav Ruse, for whom he has made six league appearances so far.

“Why not? I’m a Ghanaian," Inkoom told Starr Sports when asked if he will relish a chance to play at the next Afcon.

"I’m playing every single game [for my club] and [playing] very well.

“If the coach [James Kwesi Appiah] thinks 'Okay, I like how Inkoom is playing and I’m inviting him', then why not?

"I’m a Ghanaian and I will never turn my back on Ghana.”

Inkoom, a World Cup winner with Ghana at U20 level, helped the Black Stars to finish second and fourth at the 2010 and 2012 Afcons respectively.

The former Dnipro and FC Basel man was also part of the west Africans' set-up as they reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Ghana are seeking to win their first gold in 37 years at the upcoming Afcon where they have been placed in Group F which also contains Cup holders Cameroon, Benin and Guinea-Bissau.

The tournament is scheduled to run between June 21 and July 19 in Egypt
