Gbenga Ogunbote blames Enugu Rangers loss in Benin on Seka Pascal red card

The Flying Antelopes gaffer admitted that playing with a man down for over 70 minutes was quite a test for his team

Enugu Rangers coach Gbenga Ogunbote has spoken about the impact of Seka Pascal's red card in the 2-1 defeat suffered against Bendel Insurance.

The Flying Antelopes were left helpless as their 13-match unbeaten run in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) was halted in Thursday’s rescheduled Matchday 8 encounter at the Sports Complex of the University of Benin.

Ogunbote confessed that it was quite tasking to play over 70 minutes with 10 men following the straight red card handed to Pascal in the 21st minute for an off-the-ball incident.

The gaffer maintained that there were still some positives for the Flying Antelopes to take from the game.

“It was a good game that we should have earned a respectable result for but for the sending off of our top marksman. Playing a man less for over 70 minutes of the game was very tasking.

“However, we leave with the positives from the match going forward. We are not under any pressure,” the Rangers coach told the club media

Having seen their unbeaten run spoilt, the Flying Antelopes coach has assured fans that his team will shake off the defeat.

“It was unfortunate that we have to drop our unbeaten run this way but we hope to start another round of unbeaten runs,” the coach concluded.

Despite the defeat in Thursday’s outing, Rangers are still leading Group A of the NPFL with 31 points from 15 games, while Insurance are now out of the relegation zone in sixth position with 21 points from 16 games.
