A first batch of Gor Mahia squad has left for Equatorial Guinea ahead of the return leg of Caf Champions League.

The contingent comprising of mostly officials departed in the wee hours of Saturday to Malabo ahead of the match. This comes hours after the Kenyan government bailed out Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards with return tickets for the Caf assignments.

Both clubs had earlier in the week threatened to pull out of the competitions citing lack of funds. AFC Leopards were in dire need of Sh6million to make the trip to Madagascar while Gor Mahia needed Sh4million.

But on Friday, the Kenyan government chipped in with a helping hand by donating return tickets for both teams. K'Ogalo CEO Lodvic Aduda confirmed to Goal that the Ministry of Sports had purchased 30 air tickets for each team.

“The government has come to our aid. Until today (Friday), we were not sure whether we would make this trip to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, for the return leg but now we have the tickets,” Aduda told Goal.

Gor Mahia will carry a two goal lead going into the return leg against Leones Vegetarianos while AFC Leopards will be seeking for a high scoring draw to sail through after playing out to a 1-1 draw against Madagascar's Fosa Juniors.
