FIFA Rankings: India drop to 97 after SAFF defeat

The Blue Tigers have gone down by a spot to 97th in the latest FIFA rankings after they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Maldives at the SAFF Cup.

FIFA continues to rank by the ELO method which means that rankings will change with each passing match as compared to the previous method of updating the rankings once every month on a particular date.

India are preparing for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2019 which kicks-off in January. They are placed in the Group A alongside hosts UAE, Bahrain and Thailand. UAE's ranking is unchanged at 77, whereas Bahrain have climbed by a spot to 112th. The other team from India's group, Thailand, have also maintained their 122nd ranking.

This means that India are still the second-best side in the group on the basis of the latest rankings.

India is set to play a couple of friendlies during the international breaks in the run up to the continental showpiece.

On the global front, Belgium are leading the charts jointly with France while Brazil, Croatia and Uruguay make up the top five.
