Victor Wanyama has been challenged to help raise the standards of Kenyan football by mentoring young and upcoming players.
Wanyama was dared to take up the mantle by the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga after the Tottenham midfielder paid the opposition leader a courtesy call in his private office at the Capitol Hill on Tuesday.
“Victor Wanyama of Tottenham Hotspurs called on me. I urged him to mentor other young Kenyans to follow his footsteps and lift the standards of football in the country,” said Odinga.
Wanyama, who is currently in the country for a holiday break, took time over the weekend to watch a local tournament organized by fellow Harambee Stars teammate and Girona FC striker, Michael Olunga.
Wanyama is expected to fly back to his base in London on July 7 for a pre-season camp with Tottenham.
