A day has been set aside to honour the forward for his effort that gave Birmingham City their first piece of silverware since 1995

February 27 remains a historic day to celebrate Obafemi Martins' winning goal as Birmingham City defeated Arsenal 2-1 to lift the English League Cup trophy in 2011.

The Nigeria international who joined the St Andrew's Stadium outfit on a six-month loan from Rubin Kazan in 2011, wrote his name in the club's history books as an 83rd-minute substitute at Wembley.

The former Inter Milan and Levante forward made a name for himself in Birmingham City's history with his last-gasp effort that dented the Gunners' hopes of winning their first League Cup title under Arsene Wenger.

Martins took advantage of a mix-up between defender Laurent Koscielny and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to guide the Blues to their first English League Cup title in 48 years.

Seven years later, the 33-year-old who now plays for Shangai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League, joined a host of Birmingham City fans to celebrate the Cup triumph.
