The Socceroos teenager is inching towards a senior debut with the Hoops

Australian midfielder Daniel Arzani was handed a training session with the Celtic first-team on Tuesday as he gradually starts to work his way into Brendan Rodgers' plans.

Having been part of the the Hoops academy set-up to date, Rodgers decided to give Arzani a chance to impress with the first-team at Murrayfield instead of taking part in a reserves game against Partick Thistle.

While the promotion might not guarantee a senior debut anytime soon, the move shows Arzani has been doing the right things in the academy and is now well and truly on Rodgers' radar.

Though unable to take part in Celtic's Europa League clash against Red Bull Leipzig on Friday, the 19-year-old could be set to be included in the Hoops side to take on Hearts in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Monday.

Arzani was named in an 18-man squad over the weekend for a clash against Hibernian, but failed to make the bench as fellow Aussie Tom Rogic scored in a 4-2 win.

Reports last week suggested the Australian could return to Manchester City by the end of the year should he fail to earn minutes with the first-team, a claim Celtic have strongly denied.

Rodgers has been quick to downplay Arzani's lack of opportunities to date and most recently said he has been impressed with the teenager's progress

"Coming in after a World Cup with players a number of weeks ahead of him in terms of fitness and training, he is adapting to a more physical game," Rodgers said.

"There are lots of things, but he is very happy and we have been very pleased in terms of how he is making progress.

"It’s not easy to just snap your fingers and just come into a top team with top players who have done very well, but I have been really pleased with how he is developing and working and adapting to how we want to work."
