Orlando Pirates defender Tercious Malepe has completed his move to Premier Soccer League (PSL) outfit Chippa United.

This has been confirmed by Chippa’s chief executive officer Peter Kotroulis, who revealed that the promising player has joined the club on a season-long loan deal.

Malepe made 18 league appearances for the Urban Warriors - netting once in the process as they were relegated to the National First Division (NFD).

The former South Africa under-20 captain returned to his parent club at the end of his loan deal, but Bucs decided against keeping him for the current 2018/19 season.

“Yes, it is true that Tercious Malepe is now part of the Chippa United team,” Kotroulis told Goal.

The former Moroka Swallows defender will have a chance to work with former Pirates coach Eric Tinkler, who recently replaced Dan Malesela as Chippa head coach.

“We signed him on a season-long loan deal from Orlando Pirates and he will be working with coach Eric Tinkler,” he continued.

Malepe, who can play either as a right-back or centre-back, will compete with the likes Gerald Modisane, James Okwuosa, Federic Nsabiyumva, Boikanyo Komane and Thabo Nthethe for a place in Tinkler’s starting line-up.

Meanwhile, Chippa are keen to reinforce their goalkeeping department following the departure of Brighton Mhlongo.

The shot-stopper spent last season on loan at the Port Elizabeth-based club before being sold to Bidvest Wits in the off-season.

“We are now looking to sign a goalkeeper in order to beef up our goalkeeping department,” Kotroulis concluded.

Nigeria international Daniel Akpeyi is currently competing with Veli Mothwa and Ludwa Mpakumpaku for a place in the starting line-up.
