The Changi Boys' defender is of the view that domestic league players can use the friendly with the Spanish side to their advantage

Katsina United’s Chinedu Ajanah believes his invitation to the Super Eagles for the friendly match with Atletico Madrid will provide a platform for domestic league players to show that they can compete with the best.

The defender noted that it may be difficult for the local league players to have such opportunity again and the player has warned his teammates against putting up an unsatisfactory performance against the reigning Europa League champions.

“We always want to be given opportunities to see how good we are and one has come to us on a platter of gold and we must do everything to play to our best to ensure that we others of our colleagues who are not here will be proud of us,” Ajanah told Goal.

“It may take some time before this type of opportunity comes again. It is the more reason we have to do everything within our power to ensure that we give a good account of ourselves and ensure that Atletico Madrid leave Nigeria with a good impression of players playing in the local league.

“We only have a few periods of intense preparations but this won’t be any excuse on the day of the match with many Nigerians looking up to us to perform well. We can’t afford to fail them. We know it won’t be an easy match but we must use the match to inform the world that talents abound in the Nigerian league and that we can compete with the very best.”
