Cape Town City v Kaizer Chiefs: Kick off, TV channel, live score, squad news & preview

Kaizer Chiefs go in search of their first three points in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) when they lock horns with Cape Town City on Saturday.

Amakhosi have struggled this season despite making several new additions which included a new coach. But it has not been all plain sailing for head coach Giovanni Solinas, who has only registered one win in his tenure thus far which came in the MTN8. Chiefs have since been bustled out of the Cup and have now gone five games without a win in all competitions.

Granted, that the Italian mentor did not have a proper pre-season with his troops, Chiefs fans will hope that he has used the international break to get his combinations right and iron out mistakes.

Meanwhile, Solinas’ counterpart Benni McCarthy is once again thriving at the Citizens and will be beaming with confidence after his side booked their place in the MTN8 final prior to the break.

McCarthy though, will need to ensure that his side remains focused on the game at hand and not on the Cup final.

City are currently five games without defeat in all competitions and will hope that they can continue their impressive form against Chiefs.

The Mother-City-based outfit will hope to have their side fit and raring to go. Teko Modise, who only recently returned from injury would have used the break to aid his recovery even further, and McCarthy is likely to pair him up alongside Thabo Nodada, who will hope to be fit in spite of picking up an injury against Mamelodi Sundowns.

For Chiefs on the other hand, Solinas has been given a major boost with ‘Dax’ having been given the green light to be used, but arguably the first name that everyone will be looking for when the teamsheets are released, is that of former City attacker Lebogang Manyama.

The former PSL Footballer of the Season has been hard at work looking to regain full fitness and is likely to make his highly anticipated debut against the club where he shot to fame.

While in the attacking department, Chiefs look formidable, it is at the back where Solinas will need to tinker as Erick Mathoho will miss the clash. This could invariably lead to another one of Chiefs’ new signings, Mario Booysen being drafted into the matchday squad.

This will be the fifth meeting between the two sides since City’s inception in 2016.

An even encounter will certainly be expected as both sides have won two games apiece, while one game has previously ended in a draw.

Chiefs will hope that Khama Billiat who has already opened his league account this season will have his scoring boots on while Craig Martin will be one of City’s dangerman upfront.

The last time these two sides met in the league, the clash ended in a 1-0 win in favour of Chiefs and the Glamour Boys faithful will be hoping for more of the same at the Cape Town Stadium.
