AmaZulu are expected to play in the PSL next season after general manager Lunga Sokhela confirmed they have purchased the status of Thanda Royal Zulu, who won promotion from the NFD.
Despite agreeing on the deal with Thanda Royal Zulu, the PSL still has to approve the deal before Usuthu can return to the elite league.
“The deal between us and Thanda is done. It’s now all in the hands of the PSL. But we expect them to give us an answer as soon as next Wednesday. This matter is urgent. The PSL need to complete the fixtures for next season. So, we expect they will speed up the process,” Sokhela told Daily Sun.
The purported deal has had many disapprovals from the majority of football fans across the country, but more so from the City of Umhlathuze which pumped around R30 million to help Thanda gain promotion.
City of Umhlathuze communications manager Mdu Ncalane recently told the media that if the sale was approved they would seek legal action to recover the money they invested in the club.
Sokhela expects the deal to finalized in the near future and in time for the inaugural Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup which is set to take place on July 30, 2017.
“It’s possible. If all goes according to plan the team will be in the PSL by the time we play in the Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup in July,” Sokhela said.
