Akunnor blames players after Liberty Professionals defeat in GPL

The Miners failed to pick a win in Accra and their head coach is blaming his defenders for the defeat

Ashanti Gold coach C.K Akunnor believes blunders from his defenders against Liberty Professionals led to their 1-0 defeat in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The Miners had a wonderful run in June when they won all their four games without conceding a goal but they have failed to win any of their last two games making their ambitions of surviving relegation very slim.

“The game was an open game but I was not happy with the way we lost to Liberty Professionals especially with my defenders,” Akunnor said.

“They made one or two mistakes and it resulted into our defeat. However, the referee also didn't help us. I don’t want to comment about the referee's decisions but this has been a problem in our country and so the league doesn’t thrive but I am more focused on what my players did.

"We have to sit and reflect on how we lost the game so we can plan for the six games left and our outstanding game against Wafa. We have to do things right to be able to avoid relegation because our position is not encouraging," he added.

Ashanti Gold sit 14th on the log with 28 points but they have one outstanding game against Wafa.
